NANS Urges Ogun Governor-Elect To Convert Abandoned Model Schools To Vocational Training Centres

ABEOKUTA - The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has urged the Ogun State Governor- Elect, Prince Dapo Abiodun to convert the abandoned model schools constructed by Governor Ibikunle Amosun led administration to vocational training centres.

Speaking at a Press conference in Abeokuta on Tuesday, the NANS Public Relations Officer, Comrade Azeez Adeyemi said this action would help some unemployed graduates to acquire some vocational skills.

Adeyemi also called on the incumbent Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun to pay the backlog of bursary to the student indigenes of the state before leaving office, urging the governor-elect to do so if Amosun fails.

The Students body therefore commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for conducting a free and fair elections in Ogun State.

He said "the battle was rough, the road was undulating, the incumbent governor, Governor Ibikunle Amosun intimidated many, denied many of the enabling environment but Nigerian students were resolute and recipient to deliver the students community to Prince Dapo Abiodun, the governor elect of Ogun state, 

"Now, Ogun people can sleep with eyes closed as we look forward to having a better Ogun State that we all dream of, 

"We must appreciate the Independent National Electoral Commission for not playing to the gallery of Governor Amosun adopted party in the state, the election that produced the governor elect of Ogun State was not just free and fair but satisfactory" he said. 

However, the students' body also called on the newly elected governor to probe the outgoing government.

"However, we call on the governor elect to quickly set up a committee to monitor every transaction of the incumbent governor, check the state treasury to ensure that Governor Amosun did not further drain the state treasury"

Also, speaking on the issue of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY), Adéyemí said the body had met with the incoming governor and he had promised them that they would get comprehensive analysis of the problem and something would be done on that.

Adeyemi, also congratulated the newly elected governor of Oyo state, Engr Oluseyi Makinde, and also urging him to find a possible solution of the issue of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), adding that the president of the students union of LAUTECH should be reinstated, that if the demand is not met, there is going be a protest.
