Six-Man Armed Robbery Gang In Lagos Police Net


LAGOS – The Lagos State C o m m i s s i o n er of Police, CP, Muazu Zabairu on Wednesday said the command has arrested a six man gang of armed robbers who specialise in robbing unsuspecting road users and commuters.

While briefing journalists at the Police Command, Ikeja, the CP said the gang men were arrested following information by a credible source about the activities of the robbers.

He gave names of the robbers as Toyin Adewale, Olakunle Akerele a.k.a. ‘Poly’, Nurudeen Akorede a.k.a ‘Sypon’, Oluwaseun Makinde, Tunde Yussuf a.k.a ‘Door’ and Bankole Mohammed, a.k.a ‘Hunter’.

According to the police boss, the robbers were arrested on January 13, by the operatives of the command at Abaranje area of Ikotun, Lagos State based on information.

Zubairu said one Toyin Adewale, who was first arrested led the police to the arrest of other members of the gang.

He further said the armed robbers confessed to have specialised in traffic robbery known as ‘one chance’ and snatching of motorcycles from unwary riders.

“The lead suspect, Adewale during interrogation confessed to belonging to an armed robbery gang that has been terrorising parts of the state for a while.

“Adewale’s confession led to the arrest of other members of the gang,” the CP said.

Muazu however added that when search was conducted at the suspect’s hideout, deadly arms (exhibits) were recovered from them. 

The exhibits includes: one double barrel locally made gun, one single barrel gun and seven cartridges were recovered from them.

The CP also said, investigation is ongoing with the view of attesting to other fleeing members of the gang.
