ABEOKUTA - The Management of Federal Medical Centre, Idi- Aba, Abeokuta, Ogun state said arrangements are in top gear for the commencement of 'telemedicine' at the hospital.
The Medical Director, Prof. Adewale Musa- Olomu disclosed this in a chat with newsmen at the sideline of an award ceremony organized by the Nigerian Computer Society, Ogun State where the Medical Director was awarded the IT Ambassador of the Year.
Telemedicine, otherwise known as "telehealth" allows healthcare practitioners to evaluate, diagnose and treat patients in remote locations with the aid of technology.
As part of the preparations, the Medical Director said the Centre was already partnering with some international health institutions in the European Countries including Royal College of Edinburgh.
He said the initiative will provide opportunities for the health care practitioners in the Centre to exchange professional ideas on patient care across the globe.
On the award, Prof. Musa- Olomu commended the organizers for recognizing his "ingenuity, creativity and modest contributions in the use and deployment of information technology at your Centre"
The Medical Director was particularly commended for the establishment of ICT department and "re- designation of ICT staff in line with the recent government policy on ICT profession."
The Medical Director pledged his continuous support to the Society .
