ABEOKUTA - Chairman, Ijebu-Ode Local Government, Engr. Olugbenga Olugbile said the role of teachers in nation building cannot be undermined, saying they are saddled with the responsibility of moulding children's character through impartation of enduring knowledge.
The LG Boss made this known while hosting Nigeria Union of Teachers, Ijebu-Ode Branch in his office.
Olugbile said government and other stakeholders must accord priority to teachers as they mould foundation for other professionals from elementary to secondary education, making their dreams a reality.
"Roles of teachers are very significant in nation's building. If students are guided by good teachers, they will pass same value system to future generation. But if they are manipulated, used and nurtured in wrong direction, they will pass the same to future generations as well."
Commending the teachers on the outcome of NECO result where Ogun State came first, the LG boss assured that each of the 43 primary schools in the LGA would be given a functioning first aid, and health workers to inspect the primary schools.
Responding, Chairman NUT Ijebu-Ode Branch, Comrade Olu Adegbesan expressed the union's delight as the council boss promised to provide some amenities to primary school, saying that would boost pupils and teachers' well-being.
