ABEOKUTA - The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has appealed to the Manufacturer Association of Nigeria (MAN) and market men and women to refrain from inflating price of commodities at the detriment of Nigerians.

NANS National PRO, Comrade Adeyemi Azeez made the call on Monday in Abeokuta while addressing journalists at the NUJ secretariat, Iwe-Irohin House, Oke-Ilewo, Abeokuta, Ogun state.

Adeyemi enjoined the Manufacturers Association not to take advantage of the pandemic disease to increase price of commodities in the country, saying it would amount to panic buying by Nigerians.

He equally called on the Nigeria Centre For Disease Control (NCDC) to be more proactive in attending to distress call on cases of COVID-19.

He advised the federal government to strengthen the workforce of the NCDC urging them to show Nigerians that the agency is capable of curtailing the spread of the dreaded virus.

"There is urgent need to strengthen the work force and sees this period as a time to show to Nigerians that the agency is capable of the primary assignment of their establishment. Also,  government should employ the services of professionals in addressing the pandemic COVID-19.

"We urge the Manufactures Association of Nigeria and by extension to direct retailers not to take advantage of this pandemic disease to inflate prices of commodity.

"The National Association of Nigerian Students commend and appreciate the federal government of Nigeria in its mechanism put in place to curtail the virus. We are aware of the crucial roles of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), and the collaborating efforts of Health practitioners and other civil societies.

"In the same light, we are in full support of the closure of all Federal government owned institutions from federal colleges of Education to Universities and wish to enjoin all Nigerian students to abide by the guidelines released by the federal government in curbing and mitigating the effect of all this deadly virus.
