ABEOKUTA - Ogun State Chairman, Road Transporters Employers' Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), Alhaji Akibu Titilayo popularly known as 'Efele' has implored travelers in the state to desist from boarding unapproved commercial vehicles not registered with the union.

Efele disclosed this on Monday in Abeokuta, when members of  League of Registered Political Parties in Ogun State conferred on him Certificate of Honour in his office.

The RTEAN boss explained that, as part of the union's collaborative effort with security agencies in the state in curtailing kidnapping, the union has set up a taskforce team to monitor and arrest unregistered commercial vehicles with the union.

He said, the union discovered that many of the unregistered vehicles are responsible for high rate of kidnapping in the country, saying the unholy act has given the union bad image.

According to him, the union under his leadership has partnered with security agencies in the state and Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) , to assist in identifying the erring drivers.

Efele therefore, commended the state government for providing adequate security in the state and maintaining peace and tranquility among transport unions in the state.

"The relationship between transporters and the members of the public is that, if we see unrecognizable face in the garage, we call on security agents to investigate such person. We don't allow unregistered vehicles to load in the garage, because of kidnapping, we have task force that monitor and arrest unregistered vehicles from loading passengers and we do meeting with VIO, FRSC, and DSS, in helping us to identify these fake motors.

"The relationship between APC government and our union, there's harmonious relationship with the government, as they provide security for us."
