ABEOKUTA - Despite a Federal High Court order restraining the Ogun State chapter of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from conducting ward congress across the state, members of the party on Saturday thronged out enmass to elect their ward leaders.

THE ENCOUNTER NEWS observed that no congress was held at some notable areas in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital including Oluwo and Onikoko.

However, when contacted on phone, the acting Publicity Secretary of the party, Mr. Oyejide Sunkanmi confirmed that the congress was ongoing at the Oke Ogun ward that he belongs adding that same was observed at wards across the Ijebu ode axis and other wards across the state.

"As I'm talking to you, I am at my ward at Oke Ogun and the congress has been peaceful as faithful members of the party were seen performing their lawful duties"

"I also have pictures and videos evidence to show that the ward congresses across the state is free and peaceful, without any disturbance as security operatives are even less busy"

"Lastly, the legitimacy of Bayo Dayo-led Exco is not in doubt as the 24th of June, 2016 judgment of the Federal High Court in FHC/L/CS/636/2016; the decisions of the Court of Appeal in CA/L/864/2016 on the 4th of May, 2017 and 11th July, 2018  empowers Engr. Bayo Dayo as the Ogun PDP Chairman"

"Therefore the PDP Constitution also empowers him to conduct the congresses", he concludes

Sunkanmi further stated that congresses held in over 230 wards out of the 236 wards in Ogun State. It was held in all the wards in Ogun East and Ogun west Senatorial Districts as the 5 wards in Ogun Central senatorial district didn't hold.

The Acting Secretary of Ogun State PDP, Mrs Abimbola Balogun in an interactive session with newsmen after her ward congress said no court injunction had stopped the ward congress from holding adding that the supreme court ruling that had given the Bayo Dayo led exco to go ahead with the congress is what the party held on to

"The court didn't mentioned anything congresses, what the court says is that status quo should remain,  no court is barring us from holding any congresses"

"We have appealed against that at appeal court and we have an order. what the court said was that the status quo should remain and you know what that means, that we should be the way we were. That is Bayo Dayo led exco should conduct the Congress"

"I'm sure you all know that we have supreme court judgement given us the power to conduct congresses today and I don't think there is any court that is more than supreme court so we have a supreme court judgement and that order says that adebayo led exco should conduct congresses today and that is exactly what we are doing" She said

When asked why no ward congress was held in the state capital and why the party secretariat was under lock and keys, she said she is aware that some ward may not have held their congresses but majority of the ward congresses went as planned.

In her words, "I don't know the ward you are talking about. Because I'm just coming from my own ward and we just finished congresses there, I want to tell you that there were Congresses today in the state"

"On the security at the party secretariat, I want tell you that is just for protection, they are for us, they wanted to give us back up when they got the information that there is going to be ward Congresses today so they are there to protect us."

Mrs. Abimbola further stated that the reason why the gate of the secretariat was locked up was that they don't want the Ladi Adebutu led faction to take over the secretariat, adding that they are trying to make sure there is security back up and not for anything.
