ABEOKUTA - Ogun state government on Monday extended its palliative measure to the physically challenged and wives of slain Army officers at battle front in the state.
The exercise was part of state government's palliative measure for the vulnerable and the poor during the lockdown period in the state.
Distributing the relief materials to the beneficiaries at the Stella Obasanjo Children's Home, the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Mrs. Funmi Efuwape said the gesture was to cater for them since they cannot in this trying times and also to celebrate the Easter fiesta with the vulnerable.
Efuwape therefore enjoined residents of the state not to scamper for the relief materials, as government would soon begin the distribution of the second phase of the relief package across the three senatorial districts.
She explained that the government has distributed relief materials to 100,000 households in the first phase, adding that the government is targeting 500,000 households.
Her words: " Well, the Governor is reaching out to the physically challenged, orphans, then widows of fallen soldiers who lost their lives at the battle front while fighting Boko-Haram. The state government is giving out this relief package as part of our targeted 500,000 households for them to celebrate in this easter period and as palliative during the sit-at-home directive. "
"I want to appeal to our not to scamper for the relief package as it will reach all households. What government is doing is to bring it to their door steps. We have distributed first phase of 100,000 and the second phase is beginning in our target of 500,000 households ", she said.
Responding, the chairman, Joint National Association of People Living with Disability, Mr. Muhammad Olalekan who commended the state government for the palliative said the action shows the current administration has the less privilege at heart.
The Widows Coordinator, Nigerian Army, Alamala Barracks, Mrs Okon Patience Abah thanked the state government for the gesture, calling on the government to support their children's education.
