SERAP Wants Names Of N800 Billion Looters Published

ABUJA - Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has urged President Muhammadu Buhari “to direct Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice Abubakar Malami (SAN) and Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Mrs. Zainab Ahmed, to publish a comprehensive list of the names of people from whom N800 billion looted funds were recovered.

The organisation, which made the request under the Freedom of Information (FoI) Act, also requested the President to provide the details of spending of the money and the dates of the recovery.

SERAP recalled that the President, in his Democracy Day speech on June 12, 2020, said the government’s anti-corruption fight had yielded over N800 billion in recovered loot.

In a letter, dated June 13, 2020 and signed by its Deputy Director Kolawole Oluwadare, SERAP also urged the president to “direct appropriate anti-corruption agencies to promptly, thoroughly and transparently investigate allegations that payments totalling N51 billion were made into individual accounts in 2019”.
