ABEOKUTA - Ogun state police command on Tuesday, issued a two weeks ultimatum to residents of the state in possession of unregistered firearms to surrender them or risk the wrath of the law.
The command's Commissioner of Police, Kenneth Ebrimson handed down the ultimatum yesterday while parading 27 suspected criminals arrested over various offenses ranging from armed robbery to cultism, attempted murder, ritualism as well as rape among others.
Ebrimson, who disclosed that the Ogun command has made appreciable impact in efforts at fighting crime and make the state safe for all, also explained that the ultimatum became expedient in order to enable security agencies rid the state of crimes and criminality.
The police boss, who paraded the suspected criminals at the command's headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta, said a total numbers of firearms, 37 number if ammunitions, one operational motorcycle, three (3) axes and one sharp knife were recovered from all the suspected criminals during a special raid carried out in the state.
Meanwhile, a 28 years old industrial worker, Goddey Robison, who allegedly rapped a lady last April while returning home from her working place at OPIC axis of Agbara in the Ado - Odo/Ota local government area of the state was among the suspected criminals paraded yesterday at Eleweran.
After taking advantage of the isolated area to forcefully have carnal knowledge of the girl, Robinson also allegedly strangulated his victim "until she monetarily passed out" before he later threw her into a ditch of about 10 metre depth.
"After sometime, the victim regained her consciousness and shouted for help. She was rescued and the suspect was eventually apprehended on the 24th of April, 2020, while the victim is till date, bedridden at Igbobi orthopedic hospital, Lagos for spinal cord injury".
While appreciating the cooperation of of the people of the state " for their crutial and timely information", Ebrimson further declared that rapists would be fished out and be brought to justice anywhere across the state.
Ogun CP further enjoined members of the public to take advantage of the police complaint boxes mounted at different locations across the state to report any act or suspected act of crimes in their area without putting their names on such complaint.
