ABEOKUTA - Former Commandant-General, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Dr. Ade Abolurin was on Friday full of praises of President Muhammadu Buhari and Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) over their efficiency, proactiveness and responsiveness in their fight against covid-19.
The former NSCDC boss said since the break out of the deadly global pandemic NCDC has demonstrated a very high degree of efficiency in its surveillance, preparedness and prevention to flatten the curve of covid-19.
Dr. Abolurin in his 28 pages book titled "The Need To Know About Coronavirus" commended President Buhari for demonstrating strong policy in supporting NCDC to realize its vision towards effective and efficient service delivery to Nigerians in ensuring health security.
He said the NCDC had carried out many interventions in relation to the international standard of WHO across the country, saying the centre played an important role for leaving epidemic preparedness and prevention including scaling diagnostic testing to contain the outbreak along with the stakeholders.
He said "since the break out of the deadly serious global emergency viral disease, NCDC had demonstrated a very high degree of efficiency, proactiveness and responsiveness in their surveillance, preparedness, prevention, programme coordination mechanisms, frequent, continuous and timely information education and enlightenment programmes.
"The President and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces, State Governors who demonstrated a strong policy will in supporting NCDC to realize their vision, mission and goal towards effective and efficient service delivery to the people in ensuring health security deserved a very high degree of commendation for their selfless service.
"Towards national strategy to scale up access to coronavirus in Nigeria, the centre operations and activities are guided by the accurate measure the burden of infectious diseases in Nigeria and develop a public health laboratory service network among others."
He therefore advised Nigerians to avoid being exposed to the virus and apply infection preventive control measures that may reduce the risk of exposure such as; use of face masks, regular hand washing with soap or disinfection with hand sanitizer containing at least 60% alcohol and maintaining social distance.
