Mentally Challenged Mother, Child Rescued In Nnewi

ANAMBRA - A mentally challenged mother and her six- year- old son have been rescued at Amaoka junction, Nnewi, Anambra by the Social Welfare Department of Ministry of Women and Children Affairs in the state.

The rescue operation followed series of post on social media by concerned citizens, appealing for government intervention for the woman and the child who aimlessly roam along Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital (NAUTH) Nnewi.

The duo was reportedly rescued after frantic search and several visits to Nnewi by the department.

The woman had claimed to be a native of Ichi Nnewi, Nnewi North Local Government Area of the state.

Commissioner for Women and Children Affairs, Lady Ndidi Mezue, in a chat with newsmen on Thursday, ordered for their immediate transfer to government- owned facility where they would be cared for until certified fit to be reunited with their family and integrated back into the society.
