ABEOKUTA - A popular Nigerian Pastor and General Overseer, Victory Life Bible Church (VLBC), Apostle Lawrence Achudume has joined millions of Nigerians to condemn the death sentence passed on a 22year-old Islamic singer, Yahaya Sharif-Aminu by Kano State upper Sharia Court.
The musician was recently sentenced to death by hanging for blasphemy against Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W) via his music on social media.
An upper Sharia court in the Hausawa Filin Hockey area of Kano state said Yahaya Sharif-Aminu, 22, was guilty of committing blasphemy through a song he circulated via WhatsApp in March. Sharif-Aminu did not deny the charges.
But Apostle Achudume in an interaction with journalists on Sunday in Abeokuta, the Ogun state capital, said vengeance belong to God, as no man can fight for God.
The clergyman maintained that, any law should have human face, appealing to federal government to allow mercy to prevail over the Kano State Sharia law.
"It is sad we have a nation with different laws and rule. Nigeria leaders make laws for the poor. The former Zamfara state governor, Sanni Yerima who introduced the Sharia law in his state, married an underage girl from Egypt.
"I think a statement from President Buhari will have silenced the whole issue. The constitution of Federal Republic of Nigeria is supreme over any other laws.
"Nigeria is suppose to be a secular state. It is wrong for them to say Yahaya sang a song and therefore, he should be killed. FG must do something about it.
"We have shed lots of blood in Nigeria. It is hidden our progress, I am appealing the government to let him be. Any law should have human face. The government should allow mercy to prevail over law.
"There are many problems in Nigeria to be tackled than to be discussing about a musician. The government needs to be innovative. No man can fight for God. Vengeance belong to God, not man."
