ABEOKUTA - The authorities of Federal Medical Centre, Idi-Aba, Abeokuta have acquired two brand new dialysis machines for the management of covid -19 patients whose cases may require dialysis.
The institution’s Medical Director, Prof. Adewale Musa-Olomu disclosed this on Tuesday at the weekly meeting of the hospital Management with Heads of Clinical Departments
Musa-Olomu said the two machines were procured at a cost of Twenty Million Naira (₦20M).
He said the two machines were procured in response to the challenges of covid -19 patients whose cases required dialysis but had to be referred to other hospitals .
“Being a proactive administration, we were always touched by the pains and rigours our covid-19 patients always go through in accessing dialysis services whenever the need arose.
“We felt we need to do something urgently to address the ugly trend and which informed the procurement of the two machines."
The Medical Director observed that in the whole of South West, FMC Abeokuta will be the first institution to acquire dialysis machines that are solely dedicated to covid-19 and other viral related diseases.
He said the hospital was also making efforts to procure a PCR machine for covid-19 testing.
The Medical Director was optimistic that when procured, the machine will put an end to the persistent delay being faced by the Centre in the release of PCR results from the State owned laboratory.
