ABEOKUTA - The Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun has called on Nigerians to collaborate and synergize in making Nigeria a great nation.
The Governor made the call on Sunday while speaking at a special church service to mark the 60th Independence Anniversary of Nigeria held at the Cathedral of St. Peters, Ake, Abeokuta, Ogun state.
The Governor who described the nation as a land of diversity with with 371 tribes. said its has been waxing stronger despite various positions that the nation would disintegrate.
While expressing hope that the nation would surmount its current challenges, Governor Abiodun urged the people to be prayerful, steadfast and contribute positively as an individual to the task of nation building by not allowing her diversity to affect its goals.
According to him, the nation in the past years has survived many setbacks including the Biafran war, Ebola, Boko Haram and others, saying it is therefore neccesary that Nigerians first unite and collectively build a new nation.
He said the growth of Nigeria should not be left alone for the government.
He called on Nigerians to support the government in rebuilding the nation's economy as alot still need to be done towards its sustainability saying the global pandemic has seriously affected it.
Describing the Ogun state as a trailblazer, Governor Abiodun said the state has produced important personalities including, Late Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Chief Moshood Abiola, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, the Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo among others that have contributed immensely to the growth of the nation.
Meanwhile, the Retired Primate of the Anglican Communion, Most Rev. Peter Akinola has reiterated that, Nigeria needs a serious reflection and retrospection over the ungodly act perpetrated in the country in the past as it marks 60years of it existence.
Rev. Akinola noted that, there must be atonement for the incessant bloodshed since the country's independence for it to begin a national life.
The clergyman pointed out that, there was so much bloodshed in the country since 1960, posited that Nigeria cannot progress with the wanton killings in the country, calling on the government to identify those capable shedding blood in the past and making them account for their actions.
