Police Nab 7-Man Armed Robbery Gang Operating In Military Uniforms, Two Herdsmen

ABEOKUTA - Ogun state police command on Tuesday, paraded  a 7-man armed robbery gang operating in military uniforms along the Lagos - Ore - Benin expressway. 


The suspects; Ikechukwu Alore, Ifeanyi Emmanuel, Chibueze Kingsley, Obiora Michael, Elias John and Vincent Magnus were fished out from their different hideouts within and outside Ogun state by Operatives of the Special Anti - Robbery Squads (SARS) through the confessional statement extracted from one of the members who later died in the wake of their encounter with SARS operatives.


Also paraded alongside the 7-man robbery hand were two armed herdsmen, who abducted and gang - raped a 16 years old daughter of a farm settler at Afowowa Farm Settlement in Ewekoro local government area of the state.


Parading the suspects at command headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta, the Commissioner of Police, Edward Ajogun said arrest of the suspects formed part of the determination of the command not to give criminals any breathing space across the length and breadth of the state.


Ajogun told newsmen that gang leader of the 7-man robbery syndicate, Obiora Michael was traced to his residence in Ajangbadi area of of Lagos state last Thursday 17th September, 2020 where his wife was treating him if the bullet wounds he sustained during a gun duel with the SARS operatives. 


"He had lied to his wife that he sustained the injuries in a road accident".


Commenting on the two armed herdsmen, the CP, who gave names of the suspects as a 20-years old Abubakar Adamu and Muhammadu Aliyu, further explained that three armed herders, while grazing their cattles, attacked the family of the settler, Aminat Okeshola where they disposessed her if the sum of N140, 000 cash, thereafter, abducted her 16-years old daughter into a cassava plantation where they forcefully gang-rapped the girl.


Luck however, ran against the intruding herders when a police team from Ewekoro division, who which was responding to a distress call, so rounded the farm settlement and succeeded in arresting two of the criminals.


Meanwhile, items recovered from the 7-man robbery gang included 3-sets of military camouflage uniform, a military vest, a nose mask in army camouflage, a military head warmer and camouflage bag as well as an imitation gun, wrapped in cellotapes.


Others recovered from the armed herdsmen included one Jack knife and two long sticks.
