ABUJA - The National Reconciliatory Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Thursday stormed the residence of former Governor of Ogun State in Abuja, Otunba Gbenga Daniel to plead with the former governor to return to the party.
Daniel, who served as a two term Governor of the State under the platform of Peoples Democratic Party between 2003 - 2011 had announced his withdrawal from active politics and returned to his private business.
But the PDP NWC Reconciliatory committee led by Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed CON and former Governor of Niger state, Dr. Babangida Aliyu on Thursday met with Daniel at his Maitama residence, Abuja and declared their readiness to welcome him back to the umbrella fold.
Speaking at the Reconciliatory meeting, the Bauchi State Governor said the delegation was in the state to lure Daniel back to PDP as he has more to offer the party and his experience would be needed with the ongoing move to reclaim power from the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2023.
Bala recalled that Daniel was instrumental to his winning the party's primary ticket which led to his becoming the Governor of Bauchi state.
Also speaking, Hon. Ademola Omotosho from Oyo state noted Otunba Daniel was instrumental to the success of PDP in the last governorship election in Oyo state.
Omotosho said, "the day OGD came to Oyo state in his advocacy shuttle on behalf of PDP to several political leaders in Oyo state like Chief Rasheed Ladoja, Alao Akala, Seyi Makinde was the day we were all convinced that PDP will win the election in Oyo state."
In his own submission, the Deputy Minority Whip, House of Representatives and lawmaker representing Ijebu North/Ijebu East/Ogun waterside federal constituency, Hon. Adesegun Adekoya Abdulmajid described Daniel as his political leader in the state whose influence on the party cannot be undermined.
Other members of the PDP NWC delegates include, former Minister and Presidential Aspirant, Kabir Tanimu Turaki, former Deputy Speaker House of Representatives, Hon. Austin Opara, Senate Minority Leader, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe (Abia), former PDP Chairman, Ekiti State, Chief Bola Olu-Ojo, and Deputy National Secretary of the PDP, Dr. Emmanuel Agbo, Mrs. Stella Omu; Senator Istifanus Gyang (Plateau); Mrs. Tafawa Balewa and Hon. Ademola Omotosho from Oyo State.
The OGD Delegation that received the national PDP leaders are; Deputy Minority Whip, House of Representatives and lawmaker representing Ijebu North/Ijebu East/Ogun Waterside Federal Constituency; Hon. Adesegun Adekoya Abdel-Majid, and Spokeperson of the Atiku Presidential Campaign Organisation (APCO), Mr. Segun Sowunmi.
