I WI'll Not Condone Any Act Of Lawlessness, ACOMORAN President Warns New Osun Executives

Michael-Azeez Ogunsiji

ABEOKUTA - The National President, Amalgamation of Commercial Motorcycles Riders, Owners and Repairs Association of Nigeria (ACOMORAN), Alhaji Shamsideen Adebayo Apelogun has charged the association's executives in Osun state to be law abiding and respect government decision.

Apelogun while installing the new executives of the Chapter on Tuesday noted that, the national leadership of the union would not tolerate any act of lawlessness that may truncate the symbiotic relationship with the state government.

The ACOMORAN President emphasized that, the union's existence is largely dependent on government's ability to provide enabling environment to operate peacefully.

He urged the new executive to always explore non-violence mechanisms to express their grievances against government policies.

"Leadership is all about sacrifices. It is indeed about putting the interest of others before self. So, as you improve your own lot, consider accordingly, the interest of all stakeholders. It should not be about you and you only. At the national level, I will provide you all the support that you need to succeed but please note that I will also not condone any act of lawlessness.

"Our continuous existence is dependent on government’s ability to provide us an enabling environment to ply our trade. We can not operate outside of government regulations. So, we are not expected to operate as opposition to government, rather we are expected to operate as government’s partner in progress.

"As individuals, you may have your bias for any political party of your choice but as a body, the success of the government of day must remain our collective interest and so, we must participate actively to ensure its success. Law enforcement agencies are equally our partners. So we must work hand in hand with them and respect all traffic rules.

"We are likely to disagree with some government policies. When such situations arise, you must explore non-violent mechanisms to express our grievances because it is always better to jaw jaw than to war war."

Apelogun therefore, called on Osun State Governor, Prince Gboyega Oyetola to partner with the association by providing motorcycles and tricycles as empowerment for his members.

"The transportation sector is very critical to the development of any state. Aside creating job for countless number of people especially the youth, we also play fundamental role in revenue generation. So any visionary government must be able to harness these potentials inherent in the transportation sector for the good of all. It is against this background that I wish to appeal to the government and indeed the hardworking governor of this state, Adegboyega Oyetola to partner with us by empowering our members with motorcycles and tricycles as the case maybe."
