ABEOKUTA - The Federal Medical Centre, Idi-Aba, Abeokuta in Ogun state has recorded another landmark in it's health care delivery services as it becomes the first tertiary health institution in the country to acquire the latest digital Mammography machine.
The digital mammography machine provides easy analysis of images.
The energetic and visionary Medical Director, Prof. Adewale Musa-Olomu led members of the management and some very senior surgeons to inspect the machine.
Apart from the mammography, other latest diagonistic machines acquired are mobile digital x-ray and fluoroscopy machine.
A statement signed by Head of Public Relations, Segun Orisajo said Oxygen challenge in the Centre will soon be a thing of the past with the successful completion of the oxygen plant.
He further added that procurement of the latest diagonistic machines is expected to ease the challenges of patients who often travel long distances in search of diagonistic services where such machines are available.
Mammography is a specific type of breast imaging that uses low dose X-rays to detect cancer.
Mammography machines continue to be the leading modality in the prevention and early detection of breast cancer.
Mammography can detect changes in breast tissues up to two years before it is palpable.
The statement added that the oxygen plant which has commenced full operation has the capacity of producing 120 oxygen cylinders daily.
The Medical Director, Prof Musa-Olomu thanked the generality of the staff for supporting his administration since he came on board.
He said with a peaceful working environment, FMC Abeokuta will attain greater heights.
