ABEOKUTA - Correspondents Chapel of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ogun state council has commended members of Freelance Independent Broadcasters Association of Nigeria (FIBAN) in the state for their initiative to honour security operatives in the state.
FIBAN, as part of her activities in commemorating the 45years anniversary of Ogun state, bestowed award of honour on all security agencies in the state for their service in protecting the gateway state.
But the Chairman, Correspondents chapel of Ogun NUJ, Comrade Razaq Ayinla in a press statement at the weekend described the action by FIBAN as good initiative.
Ayinla said, "This is a very good initiative from our sister organisation - FIBAN, Ogun State Chapter.
"For them to make this lofty move to honour our men in uniforms, it is a right step in a right direction, and it's commendable.
"Ogun State was not only created in 1976 by General Murtala Mohammed, then Head of State and the former Chief of General Staff, Supreme Military Council (SMC), Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, but also, there was an initial socio-economic development, solid and sustainable economic planning and discipline from the highly-criticised Khaki boys.
"The first and second military administrators in the State, Lt. Col then, now Major General (retd) Seidu Balogun and Brigadier Eghagha, laid the solid and virile foundation and handed over a nascent but very vibrant Ogun State to first democratically-elected Governor, Victor Bisi Onabanjo, who built on the lofty feats and accomplishments of the Khaki boys.
"Today, Ogun State is the largest industrial, hub of the country, it's always in the best five states of the federation, in terms of Internally-Generated Revenue, VAT and Excise Duty Remittances to Federation Accounts and all-time largest contributors of solid minerals to the gross domestic products, among many other feats.
"It is not a misplaced initiative to thank and honour men of Nigerian Military, Police and Para-Military, retired and serving, for being there for us at all times, not only in Ogun State, but also in all the states of the Federation and Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory.
"We therefore, assure our sister media organisation, Freelance and Independent Broadcasters Association of Nigeria (FIBAN), of our support from Ogun State Correspondents' Chapel of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) and by extension, the Ogun State Council of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ)."
