Herders/Farmers Crisis Perpetuated By Nigeria's Porous Border, Ogun Students Claim



ABEOKUTA - The National Association of Nigerian Students (NAN) and the National Association of Ogun State Students  (NAOSS) have attributed the unabated attacks on farmers by killers herdsmen to the porous Border of the country.

The Students bodies called on the federal government to create Federal Joint Border Patrol Team to reinforce the security architecture of all border communities in the country.

The Students said this become necessary following the statement credited to the leadership of Myetti Allah that the ravaging killers herdsmen were not from Nigeria.

The students bodies disclosed this on Thursday at a press conference jointly addressed by the Chairmen, National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Kehinde Simeon and National Association of Ogun State Students (NAOSS), Ogunrombi Oluwagbemileke.

They however, cautioned some South West leaders to refrain from incisive utteranpces that may for push disunity of the country.

While calling on Ogun State Indigenes seeking refuge outside the country to return and join forces with the new security arrangement installed by the State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, they urged the traditional rulers in the border communities not to allow any politician take advantage of the current situation.

"The leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students in Ogun State and National Association of Ogun State Students (NAOSS) condemn its entirety the unabated attacks on the indigenes of our dear state most especially farmers by killers herdsmen. These attacks mostly perpetuated in border communities in Yewa were necessitated by our state porous border.

"Based on the claim by the leadership of Miyetti Allah that the ravaging killers herdsmen are not from Nigeria, we call on Federal Government as a matter of urgency creates Federal Joint Border Patrol Team to basically to reinforced the security architecture of all borders community in Nigeria.

"We call on our Royal Fathers from Yewa region to enthusiastically support the effort and drives of the Ogun State Government under the leadership of His Excellency Prince Dapo Abiodun in securing the live and property of Yewa people and not for them to allow any politician in Yewa to be politicizing or take advantage of this unfortunate situation to create room for destructive criticism. 

"We also advice all activist from South-west extraction to be cautious in their utterances is response to this attacks and as we call on Yoruba leaders that are also subscribing or pushing for a divided nation to please prioritize the unity of this nation above whatever personal or selfish interest they have.

"Furthermore, we implores any Nigerian seeking refuge outside the shores of this country to please jettison the idea and call on those that has fled based on the security situation to return home and joins hands with the provided security from government and take possession of the property.

"The leadership of NANS and NAOS implore few of the youths from Yewa extraction of Ogun State, floating different emergency youth bodies / organizations that were unknown before the occurrence of this farmers/ herders crisis in the axis to please disengage themselves from not been progressive in their agitations and should desist from been a tool in the hand of some desperate politician. 

"We call on all youth from Yewa and Ogun State in general to support the ongoing efforts of the Ogun State Government aimed at addressing the herders attacks on our farmers and all Ogun State citizen. "
