ABEOKUTA - The Ogun state Police command on Wednesday paraded six suspected kidnappers and 10 armed robbery suspects in Ogun state.
The kidnap suspects; Babuga Abubakar, Umaru Usman, Mohammed Bello, Nura Bello, Abubakar Bello Amodu, and Haruna Sanni were involved in various kidnapping cases in the state.
Parading the suspects on Wednesday at the command's headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta, the Commissioner of Police, CP Edward Ajogun said the trio of Babuga Abubakar, Umaru Usman and Mohammed Bello were involved in the kidnapping and abduction of two female students of Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU) in the state.
Ajogun said, on interrogation, the suspects confessed to a series of kidnap cases in Ayetoro, Olorunda and Imeko areas which invoved the kidnapping of a female doctor and a nurse at Olubo Village, kidnap of one Mrs. Yemi Ojedapo at Olodo Village, who painfully, they had to kill because she recognized them.
Another two members of a kidnap syndicate who were responsible for the abduction of Chief Tajudeen Omotayo the Olori Ilu Imope Ijebu on the 20th March, 2021, Nura Bello 21years, Abubakar Bello Amodu 26 years have also been apprehended by the command.
He equally added that, another member of a kidnap gang approached a man (name with held) to help purchase an AK47 rifle, which he intended to use to form his breakaway kidnap gang.
Haruna Sanni the suspected kidnapper while on interrogation confessed being a member of a six-man kidnap gang, and that he decided to form his own gang because the gang leaders were fond of giving him peanuts at the end of their operations.
However, the Police command in Ogun state has further arrested five armed robbery suspects following a distress call received.
"On 24th April, 2021, the DPO Ilupeju was informed that the POS shop of one Rafiat Wahab was attacked by some hoodlums. The DPO and his team strategized and mobilized to the scene where one of the suspects was later traced and arrested outside the scene. The suspects Ogunnaike Phillips and Isaiah Onifade were later arrested by the command."
According to him, the command is working to get rid of armed robbery, kidnapping and other social vices that might threaten the peace of the state.
"The successes illustrates the fact that the command's response time to distress calls has improved tremendously, and that we are demonstrating perseverance, courage and professional skills in handling heinous crimes, especially kidnap cases" he concluded.
