ABEOKUTA - A socio-cultural group, Yewa North Patriotic Forum has threatened to pass a vote of no confidence on Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun state and disassociate itself from his government if the killings in the Yewa region continue to persist.
The group in a statement signed by its President, Sanni Omobolaji said kidnapping and killing has continued to wax stronger in the state most especially in their local government.
It noted that inspite of the activation of Amotekun Corps by the state government and other joint task force, banditry and other criminality have remain unabated.
According to the group, a mother of seven, Mrs. Yemisi Ojedapo was murdered by the kidnappers along Olodo road, Ayetoro area of the state following the late payment of ransom.
They however, enjoined the state government to take security of lives and property with all seriousness, saying they cannot continue to lose any other person on the premise of ransom payment.
"Kidnapping has continued to wax stronger in Ogun state, most especially in our local government, Yewa North local government in the Ogun West senatorial district despite the activation of the AMOTEKUN corps and the other joint task force arrangement of the government.
"As much as we like to appreciate the government for its efforts, we think the government needs to be more sensitive and proactive in its duty to protect the lives of our people.
"Just this week, Mrs Yemisi Ojedapo, was found dead after she was kidnapped along Olodo road, Ayetoro in Ogun state barely a week ago.
"Our findings showed that we lost the mother of seven because the negotiation for payment of ransom was slowed down at a point which led to her being shot dead by her kidnappers.
"It should be put on record that we also gathered that the two OOU students who were kidnapped recently were released after a ransom was paid by the parents of the kidnapped.
"To this end, we state categorically that we won’t encourage the government to negotiate or pay ransom to kidnappers but if the government has failed in securing the lives of our people, it should not hesitate in doing everything that is urgently needed for the release of our people on time.
"According to information at our disposal, Mrs Ojedapo lost her life because of the break in negotiations between the kidnappers and her family, while the government did nothing despite being aware of her kidnap.
"On this note, we reject needless killings of our people and appeal to Governor Dapo Abiodun to take our security as paramount, because if we lose any other person on the premise of ransom payment, we might be left with no other option that to pass a vote of no confidence on the Governor and as well dissociate ourselves from the Ogun government until this administration ends and a more security conscious Governor emerges."
