ABEOKUTA - A Muslim cleric, Sheikh Heedir Ewuoso has called on Nigerian Government to improve on the social welfare of the people.
Sheikh Ewuoso who is the Chief Imam of Ansar-ru-deen Central Mosque, Owode Yewa, equally urged religious leaders across Nigeria not to be partisan but to give the needed support to the government of the day.
Sheikh Ewuoso stated this on Saturday at a Ramadan lecture themed "The Narratives of a Chaotic Society: Taqwa to the Rescue" was organized by Office of the Special Assistant to the Governor on Students Matters, Comrade Azeez Adeyemi.
The Islamic cleric narrated that the terrorism ravaging the country was caused by religious fanaticism and the militancy was caused by marginalization, selfishness and self centeredness of some people in the country.
Furthermore, Sheikh Ewuoso acknowledged the problem of insecurity, bad economy, unemployment and others issues among the youths, urging the people of the country to go back to God and seek His divine intervention to solve these menaces.
Thereafter, he explained that poverty is one of the key factors that led to kidnapping in the country just as he advised the government to be cautious of welfarism of the people.
"This government is really trying, but salary has to be promptly paid, pension has to be paid and also gratuities."
Moreover, he tasked all citizens to seek knowledge and should be able to distinguish between right and wrong rather than being pushed all around.
"The government should try to give to every zone what belongs to them and increase their effort on welfarism, how they are taking care of vulnerable, the less privilege and then try as much as possible to create enabling environment for private sector to thrive.
"Government should make the environment conducive for business, if government can do all these, it will reduce a lot of problems," he said.
In a related development, Comrade Adeyemi implored all Muslim faithfuls to pray fervently for Governor of Ogun State and the nation as well, adding that governor Abiodun has done well since assumption of office almost two years ago.
He said: "No nation can develop without continuous engagement of youths. I therefore urge the youths in Ogun State to support the giant stride of Prince Dapo Abiodun to reposition the state to an enviable heights."
