ABEOKUTA - The Ogun State government has assured of providing the masses with qualitative healthcare delivery.

Despite dwindling revenue occasioned by the effect of Covid-19, the state government promised to always resolve issues affecting the sector promptly.

The assurance was contained in a statement jointly signed by the State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Tomi Coker and the Executive Secretary, Primary Health Care Board, Mr. Elijah Ogunsola.

They said Governor Dapo Abiodun administration has made significant investment in the Primary Health Care by providing consistent availability of basic amenities such as portable water and constant power supply.

While reacting to THE ENCOUNTER NEWS report on lack of water in Primary Health Centre, Abeokuta South local government at Oke-Ilewo,  the Commissioner maintained that, the local government Chairman and the Medical Officer of Health are equal to the task of resolving the concerns raised and restored normalcy to the centre.

She noted that, despite the myriad of challenges and liabilities the present administration inherited, the state government has taken painstaking efforts to turn around the health sector.

"Our attention has recently been drawn to an online publication about a Primary Health Care facility in Abeokuta South LGA where there were issues with the water supply due to malfunction of the generator and which impacted on patients experience, particularly our expectant mothers.

"Our apologies go to any expectant mother that might have been affected by the shortage of water supply at the Oke Ilewo PHC within the last week.

"Prince Dapo Abiodun led administration is grossly, a focused and steady government with paramount interest in the socio-economic well being of the citizenry. Consequently, despite the myriad of challenges and liabilities of governance inherited, one of the most areas where proactive measures and painstaking efforts have been placed to turning around the fortunes of the state for better is the health sector.

"As a matter of fact, this administration has zero tolerance for poor health care experience and services. This underscores the ongoing infrastructural investment made thus far to  upgrade  over 100 PHCs across the 20 LGAs.

"In addition, for the first time in the history of Ogun State, there is provision of a monthly running cost for 236 PHC facilities across the 236 wards of Ogun State. The funds are lodged directly in each of the facilities" accounts operated by the host Community and the facility staff. This  intervention will ensure that facilities remain viable long after renovation is completed with the empowerment of the community and facility health workers to procure tools as needed for a seamless day to day running of services."

Dr. Coker therefore reiterated that, the Health Insurance Scheme would be launched soon to further strengthen the healthcare system for the vulnerable group across the 20 local government areas of the state.

"To further strengthen the healthcare system, the Health Insurance Scheme is about to be launched for the vulnerable group across the 20 LGAs, thereby providing access to free healthcare to all  enlisted individuals.

"The State Health sector under the leadership of the Honourable Commissioner of Health Dr. Tomi Coker, would like to assure the public of it's commitment to  promptly responding to any health concerns brought  to the attention of the Ministry from members of the public or any tier of healthcare sector for immediate resolution as the situation dictates.

"Our appreciation goes to  the media for its continued cooperation, support and understanding in disseminating accurate Health Care information to the populace in a balance manner, and also holding us accountable to the high standards of service we promised to our people."
