ABEOKUTA  - Joint political groups in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abeokuta South Local Government area of Ogun State have insisted on the adoption of Mr. Omolaja Majekodunmi as the Chairmanship candidate of the party in the local government.

The groups urged the State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun not to allow another suspected someone of questionable character as the party's candidate for the forthcoming local government election in the state.

The Groups which include; DA Likeminds; Independent Campaign Group (ICG); APC Youth League (APCYL); All Progressives Youth Forum(APYF); Dapo Abiodun Youth Movement(DAYM) and Afo Liberation Forum (ALF) said the governor should be careful of endorsing a candidate without a credible source of income.

The Co-ordinator, Abeokuta South Joint Political Group Forum, Mohammed Ali who spoke on behalf of the groups insisted that the decisions of elders and leaders in the council on the emergency of Hon. Omolaja Majekodunmi and Surv. Sotayo Iretiolu as the Chairmanship and Vice-Chairmanship respectively still stand.

Ali stressed that the groups have jointly and unanimously thrown their weight behind the decision of the leaders and elders of the council.

He stressed that the decisions to support Majekodunmi and Iretiolu was because of their vast knowledge and understanding of the Local Government.

He added, "furthermore, Hon. Majekodunmi and Surv. Sotayo are loyal party men, upright in their dealings, immaculate hearts, humble and season administrators. They are professionals with traceable sources of income. Therefore, the development of Abeokuta South Local Government in line with the vision and mission of Governor Dapo Abiodun, MFR won't be a herculean task for them.

"In the same vein, the fact that Abeokuta South is the foremost Local Government in Egbaland and Nigeria, we cannot afford its name to be pulled through the mire by supporting a chairmanship candidate whom we cannot validate his source of income or the one that won't be confidential with the party and government secrets all in an attempt to make money.

"We don't want to experience another unpleasant image in which Mr Abidemi Rufai has projected the state before the International community which subjected the state to ridicule in the committee of States in the country.

"We respect our leaders, we hold our Elders in high esteem, so, their decisions should be supreme on all the party members except whoever would like to tow the line of the Paki people as we had in the 2019 General Elections.

"We doubt not that our dear Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, MFR and the number one leader of the party in the state will atune to the decision of the leaders and Elders in the choice of the party Candidate as resolved, but, we want to plead to you, Your Excellency to prevail on some people in your cabinet who hailed from other Local Governments but sponsoring crisis elsewhere for the reasons best known to them to stop for the sake of peace and Progress.

"Conclusively, Our Leaders and Elders have spoken and we are fully in support of them as Hon. Omolaja Majekodunmi Remains our choice for the Local Government in the forthcoming Election."

Meanwhile, crisis has continued to engulf the party in the local government despite the support for Majekodunmi.

THE ENCOUNTER NEWS recall that, the Ogun APC primaries has remained inconclusive and the party is yet to settle for its flag-bearers in all local governments area of the state ahead of the local government elections.

The adopted APC primary election modality had been breeding tension in some of the Local Government Areas beyond what might have been envisaged by the party chieftains as well as party faithful in the state.

In Abeokuta South local government council for instance, about Eight chairmanship aspirants in the local government have stepped down for the Caretaker Chairman of the council, Hon. Ayodeji Shomide.

APC party chieftains in the Local Government area had been putting heads together towards mending fences, in order to avoid playing into the waiting hands of the Peoples Democratic Party - PDP which had remained the staunch rival political party in the state as a whole.
