Ogun Traditional Ruler Arrested For Romance Scam, Suspended By Kemta Council Of Chiefs

Chief Adetokunbo Tejuoso

ABEOKUTA - Kemta Traditional Council of Chiefs on Wednesday suspended Chief Adetokunbo Tejuoso as Baale Adabonyin village in Orile Kemta under Odeda local government area of Ogun State.

It would be recalled that, Chief Tejuoso was arrested by the Ogun State Police Command last week for alleged romance scam and multiple acts of forgery.

His arrest followed a petition written against him by one of his victims to the Ogun state police command.

According to the Police, the yet-to be married traditional ruler allegedly specializes in defrauding his victims whom he lures through his social media pages,  especially facebook and instagram with a promise of marriage.

A source who preferred anonymity claimed,  the controversial village head particularly targets wealthy ladies through their online profiles and photographs.

But the Kemta Traditional Council of Chiefs in a communiqué issued after their emergency meeting held at Ile Ogboni Kemta and signed by Chief Yomi Rotimi, Oluwo Kemta and Baaye Egba, Chief Oluwatosin Fadare, Seriki Egba and Lukotun Kemta and Chief Bola Taiwo Sakotun Kemta described the arrest and detention of the embattled Chief as "embarrassing to Egba royal stool".

The Kemta Chiefs explained that, Chief Tejuoso was installed as Baale Adabonyin in Orile Kemta and was appointed as Olu of Orile-Kemta by the past administration in the state without recommendation of Kemta Traditional Council of Chiefs and approval of the Alake of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo.

THE ENCOUNTER NEWS reports that, the present administration in the state upon assumption of office revisited the process through which the appointment of the 75 coronet Obas were reverted to their earlier positions as Baales.

The chiefs however claimed that, Chief Tejuoso has continued to parade himself as an Oba without being checked by the government agencies and security officials.

The council therefore suspended him as Baale Adabonyin via a letter dated 28th April, 2021 over his alleged involvement in romance scam and other fraudulent acts levelled against him by some people.

They enjoined the general public to disregard Chief Adetokunbo Tejuoso as either Baale Adabonyin village or Olu of Kemta which is still before the court of law.

"The council expressed dismay at the arrest and detention of Chief Tejuoso which is described as "very embarrassing". Consequently the council decided to make some clarification on the matter .

"Adetokunbo Tejuoso was installed as Baale Adabonyin in Orile Kemta Odeda Local government of Ogun State. He was appointed as Olu of Orile Kemta by the immediate past administration in Ogun State without the recommendation of Kemta Traditional Council of Chiefs and approval of HRM Oba (Dr) Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo, CFR, Okukenu IV, Alake and Paramount ruler of Egbaland.

"The present administration revisited the process through which the 75  coronet Obas were installed by the last administration and upon the recommendation of a committee set to review the matter reverted the coronet Obas to their earlier positions as Baales.

"The concerned coronet Obas took the case to court which ruled the status-quo be maintained, Status-quo , in this context means that the Obas will remain Baales as directed by the government.

"Unfortunately, Chief Adetokunbo Tejuoso continued to parade himself as an Oba without being checked by the government agencies and security officials ;

"Meanwhile, Kemta Traditional Council of Chiefs has suspended Mr Adetokunbo Tejuoso as Baale Adabonyin, Orile Kemta via a letter dated 28th April, 2021 over allegations of romance scam and other fraudulent acts levelled against him by some people with documented evidences, hence he, (Mr Tejuoso) has seized to be a Chief in Kemta Township;

"We therefore enjoin gentlemen of the media and the general public to henceforth stop regarding Mr Adetokunbo Tejuoso as either Baale Adabonyin Village or Olu of Kemta which is still before the court of law".
