ABEOKUTA - A Sports researcher, Mr. Paul Bankole has appealed to members of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), and media stations in Nigeria to engage the Ogun state PTA, SUBEB, Committee on Sports in the State House of Assembly, State Sports council in order to dialogue and initiate school-based sports development strategies.
Mr. Bankole disclosed this on Wednesday during a media parley organized by the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Ogun state chapter held at the Moshood Abiola stadium Kuto, Abeokuta.
Speaking on a paper presentation titled, Politics, Science and Technology- Gateway To A New Dawn In Post Covid19 Grassroots Sports Development and Promotion," Bankole maintained that sports will create a lot of job opportunities for millions in the county by using the instrumentalities of sports to do business.
The Director of Sports, Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), said that Nigeria will derive more revenue from sports than the oil industry if properly harnessed.
"Photographers, production of T-shirts, manufacturing of footballs and boots, production of jersey will make people to engage in so many things.
"Now, that we have the technology, there's so much we can do apart from the socio-political benefits that will also generate for us".
Bankole, who is also a member of the Association of Sports Performing Centers (ASPC), explained further that youngsters should understand the importance of combining sports with education and total reliance on God in order to be absolutely sure of a secured future.
"A very solid foundation in sports and formal academic education is required and once that foundation is missing there is danger ahead" , he added.
He therefore urged professionals and stakeholders to marry politics with sports and must dialogue with politician strategically on the development of sports.
