MAPOLY to offer ND Graduates Degree certificates

Authorities of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic in Abeokuta, Ogun State, has disclosed that the essence of the polytechnic's degree-awarding programme was to improve technological innovation.

The disclosure was made by the The Head, Public Relations and Protocol Officer of the school, Mr. Yemi Ajibola.

The Encounter News recalls that Governor Dapo Abiodun had given approval for the polytechnic to operate a degree programme in affiliation with Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU).

According to him, "It is no longer news, it has been in the news. But what we need to talk about is the operation of the degree programme, without an affiliate, Moshood Abiola polytechnic can award degree. We have all it takes to award degree, but because of some reasons, we have to do that in affiliate of the University and the Governor has approved it for us to do that" he said.

The Polytechnic's image-maker noted that the school authority and Olabisi Onabanjo University are still trying to formalize the modus operandi of the programme.

"They are still working on the MoU, as soon as that is completed the students will resume. We will start the admission for the students that will be the first set and the programme is signed mainly for the returning students, the ND graduates that wants to come back for HND or go for degree.

He maintained that the programme is not a conversion system, but a degree awarding programme.

He added that, the degree programme would begin with few departments like Mass Communication, Accountancy and some science departments.

"It is not really a conversion programme. It is an advanced programme, we are not doing conversion. Conversion may come in, but to start with, it is a degree awarding programme. Students will come in for the degree programme to promote technical, vocational and skill education.

"We want to ensure that technology is enhanced, we want to ensure that students or graduates that will be coming out of their programme will not only be a graduate that has pass through the four walls of an institution, but they should be an employers of Labour, they should be able to say, let's come together and start a business, we want to make sure that they can innovate" he said.

He, however, stated that the state government would soon lay the foundation of a N246million naira skills acquisition centre sponsored by TETFUND.

He added that the centre will ensure that, by the time the students will be graduating as either ND or HND they would be awarded two certificates, one for ND and the other for a trade.

Speaking on its recently launched online radio station, Ajibola assured that, the radio would be on terrestrial within the next three months.

"The radio has been online, but the terrestrial radio station will be on soon. In another three months, the equipment will be installed and we have the terrestrial radio hiting the airwaves".
