ABEOKUTA- Malaria is the most common and preventable health public problem in Nigeria. Despite the huge resources channeled towards the elimination of the deadly disease, Malaria still takes a lethal toll of 97 % of Nigerians especially pregnant women and children under five years.
In an approach to eliminate Malaria in Nigeria the ITNs mass campaign was created to orientate and assist in Malaria elimination.
However, 3.7million treated insecticide nets are set to be distributed in Ogun state and it will be distributed all over the 236 wards of the state.
While addressing press men during the media orientation on Sunday, the Malaria Elimination Programme Manager, Mrs. Adeyinka Olamide disclosed that the mass campaign will be a 53 day door-to-door activity due to covid-19 starting from 26th, August to 6th September, 2021.
She added that the purpose of the mass campaign is to orientate people on the effect of mosquito bites, replace the nets that had been acquired before by residents.
She urged the media to help in disseminating timely and correct information to citizens, provide adequate publicity continuously to promote the use of Insecticide Treated Nets (ITNs) after campaign as part of their corporate social responsibility.
Similarly, the DC team representative, Mr. Ifeanyi Chukwu noted that every household must receive at least 1 ITN during the campaign.
He stressed that the ITNs must be spread under the shade for at least 24hours.
He also added that the net should be washed with mild soap and should be washed four to five times in a year and must be replaced after three years.
