MAPOLY Among Top 10 Best Polytechnics In Nigeria

ABEOKUTA - Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY), Abeokuta, Ogun state has been rated among the best top 10 Polytechnics in Nigeria trailing Yaba College of Technology, Federal Polytechnic Ilaro, and Lagos State Polytechnic, Ikorodu, on the 9th position in the latest ranking in Nigeria by Webometrics.

The Ranking Web or Webometrics is the “largest academic ranking of Higher Education Institution” based on the assessment of Composite Indicators and Web Impact Factors”.

While shedding light on the ranking criteria, the Management of Webometric, a leading Spain-based Institutions ranking organisation stated that four ranking factors were used which include; openness rank, impact rank, presence rank, and excellence rank.

But in its latest ranking, webometric noted that, those four factors were the criteria used to determine which Polytechnic tops the table out of all Polytechnic Institutions in Nigeria.

“The original aim of the Ranking is to promote academic web presence, supporting the Open Access initiatives for increasing significantly the transfer of scientific and cultural knowledge generated by the universities to the whole Society.

“In order to achieve this objective, the publication of rankings is one of the most powerful and successful tools for starting and consolidating the processes of change in the academia, increasing the scholars’ commitment and setting up badly needed long term strategies,” Webometrics said on its website.

MAPOLY, despite being shut down for two academic sessions by Senator Ibikunle Amosun's led administration over its controversial upgrading to University of Technology, the institution came back to life in May, 2020 when Governor Dapo Abiodun reverted the institution to its normal status quo.

Since then, the Polytechnic has recorded giant strides in technological innovation and industrial based programmes.
