ABEOKUTA - The Chairman, All Progressives Congress (APC) Abeokuta South local government of Ogun State, Chief Henry Fagbenro has threatened to drag the publisher of AlimoshoTV before a competent court of jurisdiction over a malicious report.
The news online, Alimosho TV had in its report claimed the APC Chairman sought for the removal of Governor Dapo Abiodun from office through the recently passed direct primary bill for all political parties by the National Assembly.
Fagbenro in seven paragraphs rejoinder made available to THE ENCOUNTER NEWS on Friday said he never granted any press interview nor spoke with any journalist on the issue.
He described the report as malicious, fabricated, and misleading news to malign his image.
Fagbenro who took a swipe at the online publisher said the media has an harbinger of information should not be seen as a tool in the hands of politicians, calling on party leaders and members to disregard the news as lies taken too far.
He, however, vowed to seek legal redress if the fake news is not retracted within the next 24 hours by the news medium.
"I have been inundated with calls, text messages, and chat about a false, illegal, malicious, and meaninglessly concocted news fabricated by an unknown cobweb online blog, ALIMOSOTV with a disparaging piece of propaganda to malign my image in the public with malicious news in the media.
"I want to state unequivocally that, at no point did I grant press interview with any journalist both within and outside Ogun State in the last one month or speak at a public function on any issue especially things bothering on APC leadership at any level.
"The write-up was the imagination of its sponsor or the writer to pitch me against the party leadership.
"It is sad and disappointing for a news medium supposed to be a harbinger of information, truth, and objectives devoid of malicious, mischief and sensationalism, subjected itself to a political tool in the hands of frustrated politicians of recurring political failures through deceptive sponsored bloggers to begin to once again start their new journey into yet another vague political emptiness with lies, deceit, and deception.
"One, of course, pity the moral ugliness and journalism naivety that informed this arrant nonsensical, provocative, idiotic balderdash, professional journalism malfeasance, and deliberate character assassination from the publisher of AlimosoTV.
"I hereby, give the news medium 24hours to retract the publication with a public apology or face legal sanction from a court of competent jurisdiction as I have instructed my lawyer to file a libel suit for defamation of my character.
"I also urge all APC faithful in Abeokuta South Local Government and Ogun state in general to disregard the malicious publication."
