ABEOKUTA - Not less than 50 persons in Abeokuta, Ogun state capital were on Saturday and Sunday operated free of charge by CommonHealth Foundation and two other Non-government organizations.
The beneficiaries were operated on breast lump, hernia, Lipoma and other surgical illnesses.
Speaking on the purpose of the Chairman, CommonHealth Foundation, Dr. Saheed Sanni said the foundation and other partners brought medical outreach to the Abeokuta communities due to economic challenges of people in need of surgeries.
Dr. Sanni explained the Covid-19 has hampered the financial ability of people living in the rural communities to seek medical treatment.
He stressed that, if many of the surgical illnesses were not operated upon early, may cause untimely death.
"We organized this programme to operate about 50 individuals that are in need of surgical care. We discover that within the community there are individuals with some surgical illness that could not go to hospital because of economical challenges, even to eat have become problem so not to talk of hospital for surgical care and some of this surgical disorders can actually cause them their lives if it's not attended to on time.
" For example, if hernia becomes triangulated, that particular person is at risk of dying if it is not taking care of because of the infection and other conditions.
"So, this are most of what we discover. Also, young ladies with breast lump, if are not attended to on time, can grow up to become cancer and we all know that breast cancer kills.
"We deliberately selected cases that can be done within a day because we had to mobilize surgeons all over the country."
