ABEOKUTA - Riders and Owners of Motorcycle Organization (ROMO) Ogun State chapter on Friday commissioned its multi-million naira secretariat in Abeokuta.
The secretariat housing a conference hall, offices, security post was commissioned by the Speaker, Ogun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Olakunle Oluomo.
While speaking, ROMO Chairman, Alhaji Rasaq Sotayo assured members of the union better welfare.
Sotayo, who is popularly known as Sholebo said his administration is focused on turning the fortunes of members of the union around for good by executing projects that would contribute to the socio-economic development of the State.
Sotayo revealed that the union is currently building a multimillion naira orthopedic hospital, saying the hospital when completed will take care of the treatment of members at subsidized rates.
Speaking on the secretariat, Sotayo said, the new building would help boost the social-economic development of the State as it serves as a revenue generating building.
He added that apart from contributing to the revenue purse of the State it would also empower youths in the State which will stream down to members of the public.
The Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Hon. Olakunle Oluomo while commissioning the building, said the government must continue to engage members of the various transport unions to solve the challenges of insecurity in the State.
Oluomo stressed that the government must partner with security agents and the leadership of transport unions to curb armed robbery, kidnapping, cultism, and other criminal activities in the State.
According to him, continuous engagement of transport unions would help curb the excesses of their members thereby engendering peace in the State.
Oluomo stated that, "We will continue to engage them, when people have stayed at home for a long time they result to riding motorbikes, a lot of things will be coming up but what we are trying to do through this type of or organization."
"We will keep engaging them and enlighten them and encourage them to do the thing the best way they are supposed to do it and that is why I will always give to this present government for giving them the enabling environment to thrive in the transport business".
