Maiden Ogun SWAN/Security & Safety Cup Kicks Off February 15


ABEOKUTA - The maiden Ogun SWAN/Security and Safety Cup will kick off on February 15, 2022.


This was disclosed on Tuesday at a press conference and draws for the competition held at the SWAN secretariat, MKO Abiola Stadium, Kuto, Abeokuta.


According to the SWAN Chairman, Hakeem Akintunde, the competition is to form synergy among the security and safety agencies in the state.


Akintunde explained that the competition will further enhance the physical and mental ability of the security operatives in the state.

He said nine agencies have expressed interest to participate in the maiden edition of the competition.


The agencies according to the SWAN Chairman include Nigeria Police, NSCDC, Amotekun, TRACE, Vehicle Inspection Service (VIS), Ogun State Fire Service, National Community Ethics and Value  Environmental Corps (NCEVEC), Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN), and Ogun State Parking Management Scheme (OGSPMS).

Also speaking, the Chairman, Main Organizing Committee, and SWAN Secretary, Michael-Azeez Ogunsiji said all matches will be played at the MKO Abiola International Stadium training pitch, while the finals will take place at the main bowl of MKO Abiola International Stadium, Kuto, Abeokuta on February 25, 2022.


Ogunsiji noted that all matches will be played in line with the Covid-19 protocols.


He enjoined all participating teams to abide by the rules and regulations of the competition.


In his remark, the Ogun State Football Association Chairman and NFF Executive member, Alhaji Ganiu Majekodunmi commended SWAN for the initiatives, urging them to work on grassroots development in the state.

Majekodunmi who was represented by the Ogun FA Assistant General Secretary, Mr. Adeleke John assured SWAN of the FA technical support.


Meanwhile, the nine participating teams were drawn into two groups, with group A having Ogun Fire Service, Amotekun, TRACE, and Nigeria Police, while group B having OGSPMS, VGN, NSCDC, VIO and NCEVEC.


Two teams each will progress from the groups to the semi-finals.
