Muslim Women Condemn Humiliation, Persecution Of Hijab Wearing

ABEOKUTA - The Amirah, Al-Muminaat Organization, Egba-Yewa zone, Ogun State, Hajia Sekinah AbdulRaheem Yusuf has condemned the alleged infringement on the right to freedom of religion by some organizations denying females from wearing hijab.

Hajia Sekinah noted despite the clear provision of article 18 of the universal declaration of Human Rights which was proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly which provides for the right to freedom of thought, conscience, and religion, Muslim women are still subjected to persecution, ridicule, oppression and injustice.

The Amirah disclosed this at the weekend during the celebration of World Hijab Day held in Abeokuta.

Speaking on the theme of this year: Hijab Is Our Crown, Not A Crime, Hajia Sekinah explained that Hijab is a religious duty enjoined upon the Muslim woman by God.

She emphasized that wearing of Hijab is to guide the Muslim women modesty and not display their beauty and ornaments.

She, therefore, called on Muslim girls to remain good ambassadors, urging them not to use their hijab to commit crimes.

"Hijab is a religious duty enjoined upon the Muslim woman by God. It is to guide their modesty and not display their beauty and ornaments.

"It is saddening to observe that despite the clear provision of article 18 of the universal declaration of human rights which was proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly which provides for the right to freedom of thought, conscience, and religion, Muslim women are still being subjected to a lot of persecution, ridicule, oppression, and injustice because of their religion.

"From the continuous denial of the right of girls to wear hijab to school, to insistence of institutions that the ear of hijabis during data capture and denial to call to bar.

"Hijab is our crown and not a crime, that we wear Hijab doesn't mean we are criminals and we should not be treated as such.

"Anywhere you see an hijabites you must treat that person with pride, treat them well let them have a sense of belonging. For  choosing to wear Hijab, is not that we don't know what we are doing, by wearing hijab not that we are covering our brain we are not brainless so we should be treated as such.

"I will advise that wherever you are with your Hijab you must be a good ambassador of Islam.

"To our parents, we urge us to train our children properly in Islamic way as a result of the unjust killing, directly or indirectly everywhere. Not just by mistake but purposely for the worldly gain. The left hour is truly fast approaching."
