ABEOKUTA - The Chairman, Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), Dr. Samson Popoola has hinged the rising ritual killings in the country on the urge of Nigerian youths to get quick money.
Popoola made this known on Tuesday in Abeokuta at a Day Sensitization workshop organized by the office of the Special Assistant on Students Matter to Ogun State Governor held at the Valley view auditorium of Government House, Oke-Igbein, Abeokuta.
The PCRC boss who spoke on the topic "Shattering The 'Get-Rich-Quick syndrome; an habitual caution to halt the spate of ritual killings" noted that the new generation of Nigerian youths have failed to seek for legitimate work to earn a living.
He noted that the youths are now keenly interested in making money at all cost and will do anything to make it happen, not minding what it takes and the eventual consequence.
The PCRC Chairman advised that hardwork pays, since the Nigerian constitution harps on the need to be legitimate.
In his words, "For every ladder of life, there are lessons to learn, we aren't climbing the ladder because our parents are poor or because we can't afford certain things, we climb the ladder because it was a societal norm".
Proffering solution to the menace, Dr. Popoola said every successful individual has a story to tell, he made reference to well to do individuals who have traveled far and wide, and made it known that they also went through their trying moments.
He called on Nigerian youths to be hardworking , put the interest of the country and their immediate society in mind, and avoid anything that could bring the good image of their family into disrepute.
Also baring his mind, the representative of Federal Road Safety Corps., Engr. Oluwasanya A.O advised the youths against being overzealous when discussions about wealth come to the front burner.
Speaking earlier in his welcome address, the Special Assistant to the Ogun State Governor on Students Matters, Mr. Adeyemi Azeez said the essence of the sensitization workshop was to stem the tide of rising ritual killings in the state.
Adeyemi noted that, the workshop was to disabuse the minds of the youths against money rituals.
The Governor's side assured that the state government would continue to educate the youths against social vices.
