Ogun Residents Cry Out Over Planned Demolition Of Houses, Farmland By TCN

ABEOKUTA - Residents of Love Garden Estate, Mango, Oke Ata, Abeokuta are faced with the impending threat of losing their properties worth millions of Naira and becoming homeless.

The residents, majorly landowners and tenants numbering over hundreds said the planned demolitions of some buildings in the communities were a result of the erection of power lines by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).

The Chairman of the community, Mr. Orebanjo Martins explained that representatives of TCN had first come to the area far back as 2014 to mark affected houses and returned in 2020 to start erecting power lines in the area and had promised to compensate property owners affected before starting any demolition through a consultant identified as Mr. Olotu.

However, demolition of some buildings in the area has started, with farmlands being destroyed and ongoing erection of power lines in those properties.

But owners of affected properties claimed they have not received any compensation from TCN.

Addressing journalists during a peaceful protest on Wednesday, the owners of the affected properties, called on the state government to intervene on their behalf and seek compensation for their lands and homes.
