Convocation: FUNAAB Names Buildings After Obasanjo, Soyinka, Bogoro, Others

 


ABEOKUTA - The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) in Ogun state has honoured former President Olusegun Obasanjo and Nobel Laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka with the naming of some lecture buildings after them.


Also honoured is the outgoing Executive Secretary of TETFUND, Professor Sulaiman Elias Bogoro whose support for the institution was recognized with a Twin 250-seater capacity lecture theatre named after him.


The newly built College of Engineering Phase II building was named after Obasanjo; the Extension of the University Library was named after Wole Soyinka.



While conducting the Chancellor and newsmen round the projects commissioning on Tuesday, the University's Vice Chancellor, Professor Kolawole Salako described former President Obasanjo as a man of many colours and multi-dimensional elder statesman whose contribution to agricultural advancement cannot be underestimated.


The University also honoured its former Vice-Chancellor, late Professor Folorunso Israel Adu with a lecture theatre.


Addressing a press conference shortly after the project commissioning, Professor Salako said having spent five years in office, his administration can boast of over 150 projects, adding that over 80 percent of the projects have been completed. 


"We have put in place over 150 projects, over 80 percent of the projects have been completed while the rest will be completed before I leave office."


Meanwhile, the University has graduated 201 first class graduates and 58 Veterinary doctors for its 2018/2019 and 2019/2020 combined academic sessions.


The Vice Chancellor, Professor Kolawole Salako who disclosed this during a press conference, organized in commemoration of the Institution's combined convocation ceremony slated for 16th and 17th of March, 2022, said the 201 were among the 5,898 graduands, while 2,412 made second class upper and 2,732 made second class lower.


Salako added that 482 would be graduating with third class and  14 with pass. 


"In 2018 /2019 academic session, the University produced 3202 graduands: 106 in first class; 1316 in second class upper division, 1,429 in second class lower division; 310 with third class and 11 pass degree.

"For 2019/2020, the University graduated a total of 2,696; 95 in first class; 1096 in second class, 1303 second class lower, 172 third class and three pass. The College of Veterinary Medicine graduated 28 veterinary doctors; 21 males, none females."
