Sports, Education Are Key Societal Development Tools - Ogun Speaker

ABEOKUTA - The speaker, Ogun State House of Assembly, Hon. Olakunle Oluomo has identified sports and education as key factors that contributed to societal development.

Oluomo disclosed this at the weekend during the 2022 Sports Fiesta organized by National Association of Private Schools (NAPPS) Ogun State chapter, Ifo local government zone.

The Speaker represented by a Councillor representing Ifo Ward II, Hon. Gbenga Shoge commended the school's proprietors for keeping the children out of the street and getting them engaged through sports activities.

He advised the school owners to discourage negative music among the pupils saying bad music is the root of negative influence on the youths.

Oluomo, therefore, highlighted infrastructural development, Sports and education, as well as social welfare as the core values of his political philosophy.

Also speaking, the DPO Ifo divisional police headquarters, CSP Kuranga noted that crimes like kidnapping, robbery, cultism, breaking offenses, violence sexual assault, student violent behavior are on the increase due to lack of sports engagement.

CSP Kuranga who was represented by DSP Mutiat Okunlola enjoined parents and teachers to encourage the students and children to participate more in sports rather than engage in any criminal activities.

"Police are very important in maintenance of law and order. We are the closest law enforcement agency to the community. It roles include crime prevention and detection, protection of life and properties, enforcement of law and order, arrest investigation and prosecution of offenders and peace building strategies.

 

"Crime is an action or omission which constitute an offence which is punishable under law. Our young ones these days waste their time by engaging in all sort of ventures that can go against the law and as a result of damaging their lives permanently.

 

"The youth of nowadays can devote all their time in sport, as we all know, sport pertains to any form of competitive physical activities or games that tend to maintain and improve physical ability and skill while providing enjoyment to the participant and in some cases entertainment to spectators.

"At this juncture please permit me to appeal to all parents and teachers to please encourage the youth or their student to participate more in sports rather than to engage themselves in any criminal activities that can spoil their lives permanently."
