Senator Adeola Yayi |
ABEOKUTA - The Senator representing Lagos West Senatorial District, Senator Olamilekan Adeola Yayi has dismissed speculation that his new chieftaincy title of Aremo Yewaland was bestowed on him to boost his senatorial ambition in Ogun West.
Yayi, who is seeking to represent Ogun West senatorial district on the platform of All Progressives Congress (APC) after the expiration of his Lagos slot at the Senate was installed on Saturday as the first Aremo Yewa by the Olu Ilaro and Paramount ruler of Yewaland, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle.
Speaking to journalists shortly after the conferment of the title which generated brouhaha, Yayi said the title was in appreciation of his good work to the region despite being a Lagos Senator.
He said the Aremo title is a big responsibility, assuring the people of Yewa/Awori of facilitating development that will have direct impact on the people.
"I appreciate all the entire Obas of Yewa land for coming together and approve me of this important title alongside my wife. We want to assure them that this new title they have bestowed on us, we will not take it for granted and we are assuring them that we will do everything within our ambit to contribute our quota to the overall development of Yewaland.
"To a large extent, I strongly believe that this chieftaincy title was not politically motivated, I just believe it is in appreciation and the belief in me by my people that I can do everything that is humanly possible to contribute my quota to the development of the land. So, when it comes to politics, I believe it is a different ball game and different terrain.
"The direct implication is that what we have been doing to the people of Yewaland, we should continue to do it and do more. And I believe the title, Aremo of Yewaland which simply means the first born of the Kabiyesi of Yewaland, is a very big title. I will do everything to meet the expectations that are expected of me and my wife."
The highly elated Senator Yayi further assured that he would work hard through every legislation means to drive development to the entire Yewaland.
"As you're well aware that my legislative experience and exposure is not in doubt, it will be a work in progress. I will start from where I stopped. I can assure you, I know where the shoe pinches and I know the needs of my people and I know how to address it accordingly through the legislative means. I'll continue to work hard through every legislation that can bring about development to the entire Yewaland and Awori as a whole if eventually, I get their nod to represent them."
The colourful chieftaincy installation was well attended by notable dignitaries to include, Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, Lagos State Deputy Governor, Mr. Femi Hamzat, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, 2019 SDP governorship candidate in Ogun state, Otunba Rotimi Paseda, the Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo, the Akarigbo of Remoland, Oba Michael Adewale Ajayi, the Agura of Gbagura, Oba Sabure Bakare, and host of government appointees in Ogun state.
