Deductions: Ogun Civil Servants Threaten Showdown With Gov. Abiodun, Give Seven Days Ultimatum

ABEOKUTA - Employees of the Ogun state civil and public service have issued a 7-days ultimatum to the state government over its continued non remittance of workers deductions, restoration of payment of gross salaries, among other demands.

The ultimatum was contained in a correspondence addressed to the state governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, and duly signed by the chairman of Joint Negotiating Council (JNC), Isa Olude, chairman, Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Emmanuel Bankole and his Trade Union Congress (TUC) counterpart, Akeem Lasisi.

The organised labour maintained that it has earlier called the attention of the state government to the growing restiveness amongst its employees, adding that it is worrisome that there has not been any official response or acknowledgement of their letters.

It therefore called on the state government to attend to the issues raised in the correspondence within the next seven days or face imminent labour action.

The organised labour outlined some of the issues to include immediate remittance of 21 months of deductions, payment of eight years of unpaid statutory leave allowances, which according to them the current administration owes nearly four years of it.

It also called for the restoration of payment of gross salary, a situation the labour force termed as a “deliberate policy of anti workers’ welfare programme to entrench poverty and spread of agonies.

“For clarity, these deductions are part of earned salary deducted from individual workers with the instructions that they be remitted to other recipients, e.g. cooperative societies, bank loan repayment obligations, etc. but which the state government failed in remitting as appropriate.
