Hon. Adeyemi Harrison |
ABEOKUTA - A former member of the Ogun State House of Assembly, who represented Ogun Waterside constituency, Hon. Adeyemi Harrison, has been elected the governorship candidate of African Action Congress (AAC) in Ogun State.
Harrison, a two term member of the House of Assembly polled 56 votes from the 60 accredited delegates to defeat his rival, Mrs. Oluwakemi Soye who scored 2 votes.
Announcing the result, the AAC National Treasurer, Mr. Francis Abayomi and the AAC Ogun governorship Primary election committee chairman, Mr. Oyalowo Ayodeji declared Hon. Harrison as the elected governorship candidate of the party in 2023 in Ogun State.
The Electoral Committee chairman said, the 60 delegates that were accredited all voted with only two void votes.
The National Treasurer, Francis Abayomi who handed over the party's flag to the governorship candidate said, "By the power conferred on me by the National Working committee of our great party, I hereby declare you Hon. Adeyemi Harrison winner of the Ogun governorship primary of African Action Congress.
"You now have the permission of the party's National executive to take the flag of the party anywhere in the state as our governorship flagbearer in 2023 Congratulations."
In his acceptance, the former lawmaker promised an all inclusive government if he becomes the governor of the state.
He added that qualitative and affordable education, healthcare services would be paramount in his administration, saying that agriculture and provision of basic amenities would not be left behind.
He called on the people of the state to join hands and support his ambition, saying that the state needed a God fearing personality to move forward to a greater height.
On reasons why he considered himself as the better alternative for the governorship seat, Harrison said all those who have ruled the state with exception to few were accidental leaders who are not interested in the future of the people of the state.
He maintained that, both APC and PDP have failed to lived up to the yearnings and aspirations of the people by providing adequate security for the people.
"The question of insecurity in the state is in the hand of the people. My government will collaborate with the people of the state to tackle insecurity in this state. We are going to train community leaders on how to secure their environment and we will educate our people on security consciousness.
"I have a reason for leaving APC to contest on this Party, AAC because the sitting government has neglect the people of this state. The people are frustrated so we are coming to align them and reeducate our people on what to do in the public and what not to do.
"With the number of people behind me, I think I will emerge. Of course there are ways some political parties want to rig the election but I know that INEC will not allow that. If you want to defeat your opposition, don't defeat your opposition with just fifty, hundred, two thousand votes. Beat your opposition with about forty to thirty thousand votes so that it will be difficult to rig so we have to double our efforts."
Harrison stressed further that for instance, the farm settlements built by Chief Obafemi Awolowo have been exploited by past administrations for selfish agenda and at the detriment of people of the state.
The former lawmaker said his administration if elected would however right the wrong of past Governors in the state.
"I am not in this race for negotiation because I have plans for the people. At my age, if I cannot contest to win an election, definitely I cannot be president. I am older than Yaya Bello and Tambuwal who are contesting for president."
