Ogun: We Have Suffered Under Dapo Abiodun - Pensioners

ABEOKUTA– Pensioners in Ogun state have lamented the treated melted on them by the Prince Dapo Abiodun administration, terming it ‘non-challant’, which according to them has culminating into unprecedented sufferings of the Pensioners in the State.

They disclosed this on Wednesday in an open letter signed by both the state Chairman, Comrade Waheed Oloyede and his Secretary, Comrade Bola lawal, a copy made available to newsmen in Abeokuta on Wednesday, lamented their pitiful conditions, which prompted organized labour threatening to declare an industrial action on its behalf.

They, however, regretted that the said summoned meeting comprising of the Labour Centres and the leadership of Nigeria Union of Pensioners with the representatives of the State Government on Wednesday 20th April, 2022, ended in a ruse, with the government not keeping to its promises.

“It could be observed that since the inception of your Administration in this state, the Elder Citizens have been treated with non-challant attitude .

“The Labour movements in Ogun State observed the pitiful conditions of Ogun State Pensioners, the two Labour Centres, Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), the Trade Union Congress (TUC) and the Ogun State Joint Negotiating Council decided to forward a joint solidarity letter on behalf of Nigeria Union of Pensioners to your Government threating to declare an Industrial Action on behalf of Ogun State Pensioners.

“To prevent this action from happening, your government quickly summoned a meeting comprising of the Labour Centers and the leadership of Nigeria Union of Pensioners with the representatives of the State Government on Wednesday 20th April, 2022. At the meeting where the Chief of Staff, the Head of Service, Permanent Secretaries and the Accountant General were on the Government side, the Chief of Staff addressed the meeting with sweet promises that Pensioners request would be attended to before the end of May, 2022.

“Alas! At the end It was discovered that the entire promising address was a ruse”, they lamented

Recall that part of the pensioners requests includes, the release of substantial amount to offset the outstanding gratuities of almost ten years, implementation of Pensioners Increase in Pension by 33.4% outstanding since 2010 and consequential Increase in Pension approved by Federal Government since 2019 amongst others.

They therefore issue a 14-day ultimatum to the State Government to implement all it’s demands and pay both May and June, 2022 monthly pension in full, failure to do so they say, “otherwise the fire on the mountain would drop down”.
