Assumed Dead Victim Of Police Shooting Alive, But Critically Injured - FMC

 

ABEOKUTA - The SS 2 student of Unity High School, Sadiat who was reportedly shot dead by operatives of OP MESA in Abeokuta, Ogun state capital is alive.

Operatives of OP MESA had on Thursday reportedly fired into the crowd of secondary school students while chasing after notorious cultists at Ago-Ika area of Abeokuta.

According to eyewitness account, the direct shot fired by the security operatives, however, reportedly killed on student of the Unity High School, Ago-Ika simply identified as Sadiat, who was pronounced "dead on arrival" at the Federal Medical Center (FMC), Idi Aba, Abeokuta, where she was rushed to for treatment, while three other students and a commercial motorcyclist were also hit by the stray bullets fired by the operatives.

But when THE ENCOUNTER NEWS visited the Emergency Unit of FMC, Abeokuta, one of the victims, Sodiq Makanjuola who was hit by straight bullet at the leg was seen lying on the stretcher with wound on his leg.

Speaking with our reporter, the Head of Public Relations Officer of the hospital, Mr. Segun Orisajo said Sodiq was transferred to the centre this morning from the State Hospital, Ijaiye.

Orisajo said he had since been attended to immediately.

While dispelling the death rumour of the female victim, Sadiat, the PRO said the student is alive.

He said, although, when she was brought to the hospital yesterday, she was badly injured and in critical condition but has been transferred to the intensive care unit (ICU) for special treatment.

"The female students has been referred to the ICU for uninterrupted specialized proper treatment, this morning a male victim was transferred here from Ijaiye General hospital.

"The state government had visited the hospital through representatives of Ministry education and Abeokuta North local government came here to see the victims. The lady in question came in critical condition and that was why she was referred to the ICU."

Meanwhile, the mother of the male victim, Sodiq, Mrs. Toyin Makanjuola expressed sadness with the situation, calling on the state government to assist in offsetting the medical bills.
