ABEOKUTA - Forest Guards in Ogun State under the Ministry of Forestry have indicated interest to participate in the second edition of the SWAN/Security &/Safety Cup.
The SWAN/Security & Safety Cup is a football competition organized by Ogun State chapter of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) for Security and Safety Agencies in the state.
The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Forestry in the state, Alhaji Lateef Benson while receiving the Main Organizing Committee in his office at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta on Thursday expressed readiness of the Forest Guards to participate in the football competition.
The Permanent Secretary maintained that engagement in active sports would enhance the physical and psychological alertness of the operatives.
He said, "I just want to implore the defending champions, NSCDC and other heavyweight like Nigeria Police and Amotekun that our boys are coming out from the forest to win the trophy and take it back to the forest.
"Our officers are gallant and ever ready, we shall storm the competition with tactical approach and ensure that we emerge Champions as debutants. We are not coming there as spectators, but to compete healthily."
He commended SWAN for the laudable initiative, urging the association to sustain the idea for continuous edition.
Reacting, the SWAN Chairman in the state, Alh. Akeem Akintunde thanked the Permanent Secretary and management of the ministry for their acceptability and support for the competition.
Akintunde stressed that, the competition will foster symbiotic relationships among rank and file of security and safety officers in the state.
He, therefore, assured the ministry of the organizers fair officiating and thorough screening of all participating agencies to avoid use of mercenaries.
