ABEOKUTA - A former Presidential aspirant of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Olufemi Ajadi Oguntoyinbo, on Thursday emerged as the party's governorship candidate in Ogun state.
Oguntoyinbo, an entrepreneur, emerged through unanimous votes by the party's delegates following the disqualification of the two factional governorship candidates, Ezekiel Fayoyin and Mrs. Kassim Jackie-Adunni by the party's internal organ.
Announcing Oguntoyinbo as the winner after a voice vote at the primary held at the party's secretariat in Abeokuta, the Chairman, Electoral Committee and Returning Officer of the party, Abdullahi Tukur Dogonnama said the party acted in line with the INEC's substitution provision of candidates.
In his acceptance speech, Oguntoyinbo thanked party members and delegates for their support and the opportunity to serve them.
Ajadi expressed satisfaction on the conduct of the exercise, saying he was happy with the election.
He said “If we should look into the situation of road in our State, aside from the State Capital, the condition of road is very poor. By the grace of God coming 2023, there won’t be a single porthole. We will give our citizens, chance to communicate with Government that is on board."
He applauded the effort of the State Electoral Board, delegates, Party representatives from all wards.
Addressing journalists shortly after the primary exercise, NNPP Chairman, Comrade Olaposi Oginni, said the situation at Sango Otta axis road in the state is not what citizen pray for, stating that it denotes there’s no Government in the State.
The party chairman also claimed that the people of the state are not happy with the situation of things in the state, saying that was why the party is introducing a very young, dynamic, and enthusiastic governor.
According to him” You saw what happened in Sango Otta and also around the state, how do you want to maximize the economy of the State? And the government in power are doing nothing about it.
“Youth development is going to be our priority, and one of our core priority is education, we are going to make sure that our children are well educated. We are the best and we are bringing the best to Ogun State.
“We have done the election legally in the presence of all INEC officials, security agencies, and the national officers of the party including the National Secretary. So we have the full backing of the electoral law.
“What we are saying as a leader of the party in Ogun State, we see that the boat and the ship of this party did not sink and that’s why we remain afloat and we are still there looking forward to taking over."
