ABEOKUTA - The new Commandant of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Ogun state, Niyi Ajibola said the command has concluded plans to revive quick response team to respond to emergency security situation across the state.
Mr Ajibola disclosed this when he paid a courtesy visit to the Ogun State Council of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Abeokuta on Thursday.
He maintained that his mission was to support the government to meet its policies and programmes, by ensuring adequate security in all the crannies of the state.
He decried the upsurge of cult activities in the state, saying the Counter Terrorists Unit of the Corps would assist the state in tackling the menace.
Ajibola also stressed the command's readiness to engage journalist in the state in its fight against cultism and other vices.
His words "Whatever we do as far as carrying out our mandate, we cannot do without the media. If the media is not with us, is like we are working in vain. We have Interrelated functions because the two bodies are serving the people."
He added "Our agency is created to serve the people and all our mandates are people's friendly and geared towards the wellbeing if the people. The Media too is to serve the people by way if information on whatever is going on so, if we are doing our work without recognizing the status and the power of the media, then we are not working at all."
Speaking earlier, the NUJ Caretaker Chairman in the state, Mrs. Omolola Adeyinka assured the new NSCDC Commandant of a robust relationship with the men of the fourth estate of the realm.
Mrs. Adeyinka, who was represented by Mr. Simon Fakeye further stated that the journalists would continue to synergize with the command in the state.
