ABEOKUTA - Determined to eradicate idleness and curb social vices among women, Ogun state government in the last three years has trained over 200 female Coders after taking them through free training tagged Abocoders Classes.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on ICT, Mr. Dayo Abiodun disclosed this during the 5th convocation ceremony of 43 Abocoders, held at Ogun TechHub, Kobape, Abeokuta.
Abiodun revealed that female coding classes was collaboration between the Ogun Bureau of Information Technology (BIT) and a Non- Governmental Organization, Aspillos Foundation, towards exposing women to income generation activities hidden in ICT.
The Special Adviser reiterated the commitment of Prince Dapo Abiodun's administration to make the state an Information Communication Technology (ICT) hub of Nigeria, noting that expertise in ICT would reduce unemployment amongst the women folk.
He noted that Governor Abiodun's initiative of changing the perception about women being relegated to the kitchen, stating that the training classes prevailed a way of developing women in ICT skills for income generation.
While presenting gifts of Digital Tablets to the top three most performing graduands, the Adviser admonished them to reciprocate the government's investment by putting into use all they have learned profitably.
Speaking on behalf of other graduands, Damilola Obisesan appreciated the state government, saying training had equipped them in all areas of their lives.
The training covered among others, web development, and data science.
