Omoluabi Sports Festival Berths In Ogun

 


ABEOKUTA - The maiden edition of Omoluabi Sports Festival organized by Yoruba Council of Youth Worldwide is set to debut in Ogun state.


The Chairman of Yoruba Council of Youths Worldwide, Ogun state, Sunday Adebowale has disclosed that, the sports festival is to eradicate the restiveness among the Youths in Ogun state.


The two weeks preliminary soccer competition which has 32 participating teams will kick off on Thursday, 25th August, 2022 and will be played across the three senatorial districts of the state.


Addressing sports Journalists in Abeokuta on Tuesday, the Chairman YCYW, Mr. Sunday Adebowale explained that the competition was organized to bring out the raw talents embedded in the youths from the grassroots across Ogun state towards the emancipation of the youths.


Mr Adebowale who acknowledged the contributions of sports especially football to the promote peaceful coexistence in the society said plans were on to extend the events beyond soccer in the next edition.


YCYW Chairman also noted that the competition was designed towards promoting Omoluabi behaviors, character and norms for a better society.


He noted that, the primary focus in many cases was academics and many other activities, which certainly is an important aspect in building the youths' career and life but many failed to recognize the importance of sports.


He added that, extracurricular activities and sports teach youths many important life lessons such as discipline, focus, dedication, hard work, commitment, teamwork.


He explained further that, Sports instill many values that help the youths to cruise through life with honesty and responsibility for themselves and others.


"It is our responsibility as adults to value sportsmanship and award the courage of youths to take action rather than focusing on winning or losing.


"In our little capacity as a group to complete the government efforts to eradicate social vices, illegalities and frauds among the Youths. 


The Chairman, Technical committee, Prince Tunji Onatolu noted that the era of recycling athletes hence the need to organize competition that would assist in the discovery of new talents for the country.


Prince Onatolu who commended the organizer for the competition said the soccer tournament would also assist the state athletes in preparing for the forthcoming National Sports Festival.
